Music Twister

I use the Music Twister games for different occassions. Some times I use it as a center, sometimes the whole class plays divided in groups - I have six sets.  (I spent one summer finding Twister games at yard sales and the thrift stores!)

I wrote music symbols on the spots, and also on the spinner. I had to make sure that the same symbols that I put on the mat were also on the same color on the spinner. I made a "cheat sheet" that had the symbols and its name on it for the spinner to use in case they didn't know or remember the name of the symbol. This is important because one of my rules when they play is that the spinner has to say the name of the symbol, not just point to it on the mat.

When the student who is the spinner spins and announces the move, then he/she says the body part, the color, then the music symbol.  I did find out that kids these days don't know how to play regular twister so I had to take some time out to explain the rules, and then add my twist to make it music twister! They LOVE playing Twister! They request to play it on their "Free Music Choice Day". I do this game typically with 3rd - 5th, but I have played it with 2nd and it works ok.
